I feel like we say this every month, but we can’t believe Delaney is 7 months! We are captivated and awestruck by her. We are surprised by how much FUN we are having with her- she is no longer an infant, but a thriving, engaged, alert, determined, sweet and loving little baby girl!
At 7 months Delaney is...
- sitting on her own for any length of time and transitioning from laying down to sitting and back with ease.
- crawling! She can get anywhere she wants without difficulty. This happened pretty much overnight.
- pulling to standing. She loves to do this with the help of our arms and is very proud of doing so. She is also pulling up on her toys and crib.
- eating solids in her fancy new high chair. I've been making all of her food and she has 3 meals a day in addition to her 4 bottles. So far she has had butternut squash, eggplant, cauliflower, brocolli, sweet potato, peas, green beans, banana, avocado, apples, pumpkin, spinach and chicken. Avocado and banana weren't very popular but otherwise she is loving all of the food. We have also started offering her a sippy cup which she is learning how to use quickly.
- has 2 teeth! They came in about a week ago. Aside from the increase in drooling and a few fussy moments, she is being a great sport about it. She is drooling buckets and wants to be chewing on something at all times.
- playing with toys a lot. She loves her toys and can play on her own for a while. She especially likes toys that make noise, toys to climb on, toys with parts that come off and on, balls, animals, music toys (she gravitates towards piano keys so I think her weekly music lessons are paying off!)
- babbling. We are getting a lot of mamama's bababababa's and mixes of these. She loves to babble. She is our daughter.
- loving the swing. Our next door neighbors have a swing that has become the communal swing and gathering area.
- is loving our nanny, Ilma. We all love Ilma. She was the nanny for these same neighbors and the stars aligned for us to get her. She is the real deal and we all adore her.
- also loves animals, especially dogs. She laughs and squeals with delight at Dakota. Unfortunately Dakota does not share her enthusiasm but is tolerant. She's also met and adores Wolfie, Annie and Penny. Maybe she will become a veterinarian?
- started going to a storytime class at the library on Mondays and going to more playdates in the neighborhood, thanks to Ilmas network of nanny friends. She loves being out and about.
- "reading" all the time. Reading is one of the most important activities we can do with Delaney so we make it a point to read a few books a day. We read Goodnight Moon, Pat the Bunny, Peekaboo Forest, I Love You Through and Through, Where is Babys Belly Button and many others. Truth be told, she would rather chew on the book than read it, but we are making story time part of her regular daily activities.
- flapping her arms and squealing in excitement and delight.
- is still nursing. I am still going strong breastfeeding although I'm pumping during the workday and just nursing in the evening and weekends. It is our special time that I love despite the challenges. My new goal is to go through the end of the year, but with these teeth popping up, we shall see…
